We have instructions in the bible on how to pray, given by Jesus himself. He was addressing those who would pray aloud with the intent to be seen by others. For them, it wasn’t about the prayer, but the attention they received from people they wanted. When we pray, our intent should be to seen by God alone, confident that He hears us.

We begin by addressing Him in humility and honor. We speak in the fear of the Lord, the great I AM, the Almighty God, reverent to Him alone. We acknowledge our faith in His love for us and so we can ask Him for even our basic of needs. He has power to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Therefore, we also commit to forgiving others. He is our deliverer and so He delivers us from the evil one, who is our temptor. We remain confident as we pray, saying Amen, which means “So be it, it is done”.

Matthew 6:5-14 (KJV)

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
